ANSWERS YOU CAN TRUST, EXPERTS AT THE READY

CONCRETE SCIENCE AQUATICS IS COMMITTED TO EXPERTISE THAT LASTS LONG AFTER THE INSTALLATION IS DONE.

Explore our industry-leading warranty

Deep expertise and our total quality system ensure we consistently deliver excellence over time: that’s what makes us the smartest square foot in the industry. We also stand behind our work with industry-leading warranty and guarantee promises. If something goes wrong, Concrete Science Aquatics works to make it right.

All Commercial Coatings carry a (1) year warranty. If the material applied by Concrete Science loses its bond (peels) due to defective materials or workmanship in the first one year from date of installation, we will repair it at no charge, with the exception of the following:

  • There are existing concrete slabs where underlying moisture can cause a chemical reaction in the concrete that could result in blistering of the concrete coating applied. This is a reflection of the concrete, and not the coating applied. There are multiple causes of this condition that originates at the time the concrete was originally poured. Concrete Science can repair this, but not under the original warranty provided.
  • There are no guarantees that cracks will not occur in the coating due to shifting and movement in the concrete that the coating is applied to. Repairs are not covered under this warranty.
  • Existing cracks may telegraph through the applied coating.
  • Caulking and joint sealant are guaranteed for one year.
  • Whitening caused by moisture trapped underneath the surface is not covered by this warranty.

Learn more about cleaning (and what to absolutely avoid)

Our experts work hard to deliver flooring that looks good, lasts long, and keeps everybody safe. When stains or problems do occur, we can recommend proven techniques for effectively reducing and removing stains, marks, and other aesthetic blemishes.

Your coating requires regular washing with a high-pressure nozzle to prevent dirt and stains from being ground into the finish. The following instructions deal with the more stubborn cleaning situations. They also include instructions on products and processes to avoid.

Managing oil, grease, food, or beverage stains

Timely, vigorous spot cleaning can help you quickly reduce or remove stains. Concrete Science Aquatics recommends the following:

  1. Rinse the area with water.
  2. Apply a solution of citrus-based cleaner or equivalent.
  3. Lightly scrub the area with a stiff-bristled brush or comb.
  4. Allow to soak without drying.
  5. Lightly scrub and rinse thoroughly.

Stubborn stains may require additional applications or a little extra effort. Citrus-based cleaners such as Nature's Orange, Simple Green and TSP work very well and are available at home improvement centers and janitorial supply centers. For stains unable to removed, please reach out to us directly.

Managing discoloration from rust, soil, plant, wood stains, and hard water deposits

Regular cleaning of your floor system by hosing and using a squeegee or push broom to remove standing water is the most effective method of minimizing these stains. If stains begin to appear, clean the area with Lime Away, Whink, or a commercial descaler and rinse well. Heavier mineral deposits require more aggressive procedures such as a light acid wash.

  1. Mix muriatic acid solution:20-40% acid to water. Always add acid to water, not water to acid.
  2. Dampen the surface with a mist of water. Never apply acid to a dry surface.
  3. Apply acid solution to damp surface with plastic sprayer or sprinkler can.
  4. Lightly scrub deck with a deck broom until the solution stops "fizzing."
  5. When the fizzing activity stops, it is a sign that the acid has finished working. Do not allow solution to dry!
  6. Rinse off solution with high-pressure nozzle.
  7. Use a squeegee or deck broom to remove any excess water.
  8. Neutralize with soda ash, baking soda or TSP. Scrub lightly!
  9. Rinse thoroughly and squeegee or broom off water.

Heavy deposits may require additional treatments and possibly a stronger acid to water ratio.

CAUTION: Always wear protective eye and skin wear when working with any acid solution. Follow safety guidelines printed on containers including use of proper respirator.

Managing mildew and algae

These types of stains can occur more frequently in shaded locations where water puddles or accumulates. If treated early, mildew and algae can easily be removed.

  1. Mix 50% pool chlorine to water.
  2. Apply directly onto affected area with plastic sprayer or sprinkler can. Lightly scrub the chlorine solution over the affected area.
  3. Allow the solution to soak without drying.
  4. Rinse the area completely when the solution has stopped reacting.
  5. Squeegee or broom water from deck.
  6. Stubborn deposits require soaking with a more concentrated solution and moderate scrubbing.

Removing black rubber marks

The best maintenance tip for black tire marks is to hose and clean the area on a regular basis to prevent a heavy buildup of rubber and asphalt residue. When they occur, black marks can typically be easily removed with the right product and process.

  1. Apply concentrated solution of citrus-based cleaner with sprinkler can.
  2. Spread the solution over the area with a deck broom.
  3. Allow the solution to soak without drying.
  4. Completely scrub the area.
  5. Rinse thoroughly with high-pressure nozzle.
  6. Squeegee or broom off water.

High traffic areas may require repeated applications for maximum results. Other good cleaners that can be used include Simple Green, Nature's Orange, Amway LOC or TSP.

Removing chewing gum, tar, and tree sap

These should be quickly removed to prevent further damage to your surface.

  1. Freeze with dry ice or CO2 type fire extinguisher and chip off with a putty knife.
  2. Spray remaining residue with Disolvit or Goof Off.
  3. Scrape off with a putty knife.
  4. Clean area with citrus-based cleaner or equivalent.
  5. Rinse off any remaining residue.

Removing paint

Paint that gets spilled or sprayed on your coating should be quickly wiped up with a cloth. If the paint has dried, the affected area can be touched up with the Finish Coat. Apply as you would water-based paint.

  • Heavy paint globs must be scraped off prior to applying the Finish Coat.

Do not use paint removers!!! These will cause damage to the finish.

Products and processes to avoid

Concrete Science Aquatics recommends against using any of the following due the damage they can do to your surface.

Use of the following should be strictly avoided:

  • Power Washer With a PSI over 900
  • Metal or Wire Brushes
  • Full strength Acids
  • Metal Scouring Pads

The Tuscan Acrylic system mirrors a rough stucco finish. The surface is prepped with diamond grinding technology, with all edge work being done with angle grinders to ensure proper removal of the existing finish.

  • Prep - Existing Concrete Diamond ground to provide a clean and even surface.  Cracks and holes filled with epoxy or patching compound.
  • Prime – A bonding primer is applied to improve adhesion and create a longer lasting finish.
  • Base – A troweled on base coat formulated with acrylic polymers to improve bond between concrete and subsequent layers of coating.
  • Topcoat – Polymer modified cementitious material troweled on and textured to provide an attractive non-slip durable surface.
  • Sealer – A film-forming protective layer applied to the surface, offering protection against moisture, stains, wear and additional slip resistance.
  • Applications – This system can be applied both horizontally and vertically.

For our Life Floor Flooring System, all concrete is diamond ground, joints filled and deck washed prior to the adhesive being applied.

The area specified for renovation is laid out via manufacturer’s plan, and then lines are snapped to show position of the corresponding tile, both color and design, as well as transitions to drains and potential coping wraps.

  • Once the layout is completed a contact cement adhesive is applied to the tiles, laid and then cut to size. Cuts are also made around splashpad features, foundations, handrails jigs and any structures in the area.
  • Once the body is installed then transitions are adhered along drains and the coping is wrapped twice to achieve the height of the deck, if specified,
  • The surface must remain dry during the installation, and 24 hours is required for proper curing of the contact adhesive.

The Tuff Coat Submersible system is a rubberized deck coating used for tower landings and splashpads. Its versatility allows us to create a slip resistant coating with designs and patterns to create visually appealing spaces and strategic walkways.

  • Like all applications the surface is diamond ground, patches and re-ground. Edges ground by hand for precisian and cleanliness.
  • The slab is primed with Tuffcoat’s UT-80. Then, in the applicable re-coat window, two coats of the UT-200 body coat is sprayed for a finished flooring system. No back roll or final seal required.
  • A recommended 72 hours wait before water exposure and return to service.
Tuff-Coat-1

A simple but tested finish incorporates the broom finish of unsealed, newly poured concrete. What we can do is aggressively clean the surface prior to a curing compound being applied and then spray a polymer wetting agent and water-based dye to create a mottled, yet colorful appearance on new concrete.

  • After the stain is applied, two coats of a high gloss decorative sealer with a proprietary grip mechanism are applied to adhere to DSCOF recommendations.
  • 24 hours after the system is installed it is fully cured and ready for return to service.
  • If an existing stain or sealer is applied on the surface in a renovation setting, that product would have to be chemically stripped, ground or media blasted to be removed so our products could be accepted into the inert slab/ substrate.
