Orono High School in Orono, Minnesota, contacted us about a slippery tile pool deck used by their middle and high school swim and dive teams. Upon assessment, we found that while the tile was sound and durable, it lacked sufficient traction.
Our solution involved applying an epoxy primer with sand, followed by a squeegee base coat and a spray/knockdown texture coat. We then applied two coats of a pigmented water-based sealer in medium gray. In the locker room and shower areas, we installed a Polyurea Flake system for added durability.
This system proved to be a cost-effective solution, eliminating the need for demolition while maintaining the existing deck height — ensuring that coping, drains, and wall tile remained unaltered.
